Lions International Convention-Sydney, Australia

Cheryl and I are leaving in two days for the Lions International Convention in Sydney, Australia, where I am competing for the position of International Director of Lions International. There are 34 Directors worldwide, each serving a two year term. Seventeen are elected each year, seven from North America.

    Sydney Australia is a bit more "big city-ish" than Auckland, New Zealand. Our hotel (the Michigan contingency) is the closest hotel to the convention Center, so it is an easy walk across a parking lot and down a stairway that goes under a mono rail and over railroad tracks - confused yet??? Our first day was busy with Gary going to meetings across town & back. Today, Monday, was our first campaigning day of handing out the mints and Gary's brochure". Thanks to PDG Rod Prys & Lion Kathleen along with go-getter Lion Kathleen Cobler many people were seen with Gary's brochure or mints. Gary had a captive audience this morning Lions were waiting in line this morning. Gary was going right down the ine introducing himself and handing out mints & brochures. Finally, it was time for Gary to go to "THE" luncheon where he introduced himself and was given the 'thumbs up or down" to continue as an International Director candidate. I am happy to announce that Dr Gary Anderson is one of the seven names (out of thirteen) to be placed on the ballot this Friday for International Director!!! They pick 7:-)
